submission guidlines

We are delighted to consider unsolicited manuscripts and proposals, in all genres, submitted by post: we do not consider manuscripts or proposals sent via email or delivered by hand.

The way to submit your work is by posting between twenty and forty pages, a synopsis and a cover letter that includes your contact details to SUBMISSIONS at PENGUIN IRELAND or PUFFIN IRELAND, 25 ST. STEPHEN'S GREEN, DUBLIN 2. The cover letter should include your name, address and other contact details.

The text should be printed on one side of A4 paper. Number the pages if possible. We cannot consider hand-written submissions. There is no need to have the manuscript bound or to present it in any special way. Please do not send us the only copy of your manuscript. While we take scrupulous care of the material we receive, we do not accept responsibility for it, and it is not possible for us to confirm receipt of material or to give you information about your submission by phone.

If you want a manuscript returned after we have considered it, please enclose an adequately sized self-addressed envelope with adequate postage, or, if you live outside the Republic of Ireland, a sufficient number of International Reply coupons. (To determine how many International Reply coupons are required, you may check current Irish postal rates at www.letterpost.ie).

If you don't need the manuscript back but wish to have a response from us, please enclose a self-addressed letter-sized envelope with postage or an International Reply coupon. Please do not send cash in lieu of stamps or International Reply coupons. If you do not enclose return postage, or if the return postage you enclose is not adequate, we will not contact you about your submission. It will not be possible for you to collect your manuscript from our office.
Our editors will read your submission carefully as soon as possible. Please allow at least three months for a response; because of the volume of submissions we receive, it is impossible for us to estimate precisely how long a response might take. We are not in a position to give editorial feedback at submission stage. We will not enter into any communication about unpublished work.
We appreciate you sending your work to Penguin Ireland or Puffin Ireland and we thank you for adhering to our submission requirements, which are intended to help us consider it as quickly and efficiently as possible.
